Depending on where you live, fall typically brings cooler temperatures to town. So it’s important that not only our wardrobe changes but also our skincare routine. The temperature change can cause dry skin, flakiness, and rough texture. To keep your skin looking its best as temperatures drop, follow the tips below:
Tip #1 Avoid long hot showers and soaks in the tub. Taking long hot showers and soaking in the tub will remove the water-based moisture from your skin. This can leave you with dry, tight, flaky skin.
Tip #2 Drink plenty of water. There is scientific proof that drinking plenty of water helps to keep your body hydrated.
Tip #3 Be sure to moisture more often. Although you might be tempted to pile on the moisturizer after a long hot shower, try applying it before getting dressed. This way, your skin will soak up the moisture while you go about your morning routine.
Tip #4 Exfoliate less during colder months. During the colder months, you may not need to exfoliate as often. This is because the humidity of summer tends to make skin more oily and sweaty.
Tip #5 Use body butter. Body butters are packed with shea or cocoa butter rich in Vitamin A, E & D. These vitamins help moisturize and nourish your skin while providing a protective barrier against the elements.
Tip #6 Use lip balm to avoid dry lips. Your skin may become so dry that you experience flaking and patches. This usually occurs on the elbows, knees, and feet too.
Tip #7 Use a gentle cleanser to avoid over-drying your skin. In the fall and winter months, you may want to switch your cleanser to one that is hydrating.
Tip #8 Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin. No season is an excuse to forego your sunscreen.
